Its
hard to catalog all the factors that impelled my journey, but a vague
mid-life restlessness played a part, as did the remarkable season
turned in by the basketball team at Princeton,
my alma mater, in 1997-98.
Pictured here is Gabe Lewullis, then a Tiger freshman, scoring the
backdoor layup that upset defending champion UCLA in the 1996 NCAA
tournament. The basket provided Hall of Fame coach Pete Carril with
his final victory.
